Enhanced Exhibitions

The brief
Imagine: the Wonder of Picture Books featured a stunning collection of picture books and illustrations from the State Library's collection. This captivating exhibition aimed to attract young families and school-aged children, encouraging new audiences to consider the Library a destination for a fun day out.
To enhance post-visit engagement and extend the exhibition's impact, a dedicated website has been created to explore children's picture books related to the exhibition's content. Additional materials will be added to the website even after the exhibition closes, ensuring ongoing engagement for visitors. By making this exhibition accessible to remote audiences, the State Library of New South Wales (SLNSW) strengthens its reputation as a premier destination for children's literature.

Our Approach
Vibrant and playful design
The brief was to create a playful, colourful, vibrant website that celebrates children's literature and appeals to a broad audience. The abundance of rich source material allowed us to be delightfully creative and playful with the design, while remaining mindful and respectful of the initial purpose and context of the illustrations.

Enchanting illustrated site
- Every screen feels like an extension of the world depicted within an illustrated book.
- The site is enhanced with animated elements that bring the illustrations to life.
- The design incorporates thematic elements from the exhibition, such as nature, family, belonging, and adventure.
- A bright and playful design approach to attract a youth audience, young families and teachers.
- A phased design approach, starting from the initial exhibition website and extending to post-exhibition versions.
